Mythologia Fennica (Finnish Mythology) is an encyclopedia of Finnish mythology written in Swedish by Christfried Ganander. It was first published in 1789, and it has explanations for 430 words. It includes terms from Finnish and Sámi mythologies, as well as information about the gods of Scandinavians and some other peoples. There are also poems and spells in the book.
Most books of Finnish history were destroyed in 1827 in the great fire of Turku. Mythologia Fennica survived because it was in another town at the time. Mythologia Fennica worked as an inspiration for those interested in preserving Finnish folklore, including Elias Lönnrot who compiled the Kalevala.
